In the Life and Times of a Ute Woman, Lynda Grove-D?Wolf shares wisdom passed on to her by her grandmother, Bessie Blue Elk Grove. Written in a straightforward, clear voice, she describes the ceremonies of the Southern Ute tribe with a desire to ?record them?so that they won?t be completely lost.? Using prose, poetry, and photos she explains the dances and rites which can guide one?s life from birth to death. Grove-D?Wolf?s book is both a meditation on the life of the Southern Utes before assimilation, and a passionate plea to fellow tribal members: ?The teachings and language can still provide valuable experiences, satisfaction, and meaning."
