Description
"The man should have youth and strength who seeks adventure in the wide, waste spaces of the earth, in the marshes, and among the vast mountain masses, in the northern forests, amid the steaming jungles of the tropics, or on deserts of sand or of snow. He must long greatly for the lonely winds that blow across the wilderness, and for sunrise and sunset over the rim of the empty world." So begins Theodore Roosevelt's classic work of adventure in the great outdoors. Roosevelt himself suffered from asthma and other ailments as a child; to compensate for his perceived weakness, he pursued a strenuous outdoor life. This work for like-minded boy and girl adventurers includes chapters on hunting cougar at the rim of the Grand Canyon, travels across the Navajo Desert and adventures in South America. Additional chapters detail suggested books to take along on open-air holidays.
